Most people meet an emergency room on their worst day. That is the nature of the work, and it means a facility can end up being a building people drive past rather than a neighbor they know.
Showing up matters for a practical reason too. A family that has already met us at a school event knows where to go at two in the morning, before they are trying to work it out on a phone in the dark.
