Patient Rights and How to Raise a Concern

Your rights as a patient at Arlington ER, and exactly who to contact if something has gone wrong.

Emergency Care Regardless of Ability to Pay

Arlington ER provides a medical screening examination to every patient who comes to us seeking care, to determine whether an emergency medical condition exists, without regard to your ability to pay. If an emergency medical condition is found, we provide stabilizing treatment, and transfer you to another facility if that is what your care requires.

This is a legal obligation and it is one we take seriously. Nobody is turned away at the door over money.

Your Rights as a Patient

  • To be treated with respect and dignity, at any hour, by every member of staff
  • To receive a medical screening examination regardless of your ability to pay
  • To have your condition, treatment options, and likely outcomes explained in language you understand
  • To take part in decisions about your care, and to refuse treatment
  • To privacy and confidentiality of your medical information
  • To see your medical records and request a copy
  • To know the identity and role of the people treating you
  • To have an interpreter if you need one
  • To raise a concern or make a complaint without any effect on your care

Your Responsibilities

  • Give complete and accurate information about your health, medications, and history
  • Tell us if you do not understand something, or if you cannot follow the plan we have discussed
  • Treat staff and other patients with respect
  • Meet the financial obligations for your care, or talk to us about the Care Relief Program
